Are you ready for some football?

The 2011 NFL Season kicks off this sunday. Expect surprises.... Browns QB Colt McCoy and work horse RB Peyton Hillis looked sharp in the preseason and look to build on their success in the regular season. Texans loaded up on defense and you already know about the big 3 on offense (Schaub, Foster, Johnson). Dont be surprised if they run away with the AFC South division title. Colts are starting Kerry Collins in the place of Peyton Manning for the season opener. Should Colt's fans be worried? Cam Newton will get his first taste as a starting QB in the regular season for the Carolina Panthers. Based on numbers, Cam had the worst completion percenatge and the least amount of passing yards for all NFL rookie QB's. If I'm a Panthers fan, im panicing. The Detroit Lions. Watch out for them.... A healthy Matthew Stafford and a young stifling defense just might give the Green Bay Packers a little something to worry about. Buccaneers looked awful in the preseason as did the Eagles but im not worried about either team. Falcons added another weapon on offense to stand beside Roddy White. His name is Julio Jones. You may have heard of him. My prediction ( a bold one at that), Patriots and Eagles in the Superbowl...

Who?

When the Miami Heat took PG Norris Cole as the 28th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, I thought to myself, Who in the world is Norris Cole? I saw some highlights, read a couple stat sheets and then realized that Norris Cole is "the answer" to the Heat winning an NBA Championship. Norris Cole was unheard of because he attended Cleveland State who I didn't even know had a basketball program. Norris Cole has Allen Iverson like quickness with the tenacity of Derrick Rose.

Fun Fact: There are only 2 players in Division 1 basketball history to have at least 40 points and 20 rebounds in a game. I know what you're thinking..... Gotta be Bill Walton, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Chris Webber, Michael Jordan maybe.... No, the answer is Blake Griffin and your boy Norris Cole. That's right. Norris Cole put up 41 points 20 rebounds and 9 assists vs. Youngstown State this season. Dude is freaky good. Norris Cole was the only player in Division 1 basketball this season to average 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists per game.

If you think drafting Norris Cole was a mistake, think again. Watch this video clip and tell me what you think...

Jack is Back

80 year old former skipper Jack McKeon is back in baseball. Yes, after Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez resigned due to the Marlins going through a 1-19 stretch, the Marlins sought to acquire Jack McKeon to manage the team. If you remember from awhile back, McKeon managed the Marlins in 2003 where they went on to win the World Series that year over the Yankees. In 2003, McKeon was asked to turn a struggling team into a playoff contending one. In 2011, he is asked to do the same. In 2003, the Marlins were 35-39 after 74 games, 13 games out of 1st place in the division. McKeon was brought in to turn things around. From that point on, the Marlins had the best record in baseball and went on to clinch the National League Wild Card and a playoff birth. Well, its deja vu all over again (Yogi Berra reference). The Marlins are in the same predicament this year and Jack is being asked to turn things around. Theres only one question, can Jack yet again pull off the unlikely?

Tell me what you think.

March Madness

Early in the tournament, we've seen some surprises to say the least. In the second round, Morehead State shocked Louisville in a 62-61 thriller. When Morehead State was down 59-61, shooting guard D.Harper drilled a three with 3 seconds left to win the game. Butler's Matt Howard tipped in the game winning shot as time expired to defeat Old Dominion who was favored by many to win that game. Princeton gave Kentucky a scare as Kentucky only won by 2 points. Freshman Brandon Knight hit a game winning driving lay up with just 2 seconds. UCLA eaked out a 2 point victory of Michigan State but UCLA had a 22 point lead at one point in the game. Temple beat Penn State in a last second buzzer beater.

All in all, the 2nd round has proven to be a "bracket buster." Upsets occuring left and right.

Oregon's crazy new basketball floor is quintessentially Oregon

In addition to the most uniform combinations and the most luxurious locker rooms of any school in the nation, Oregon will soon be able to lay claim to the country's most original basketball floor. Oregon officials unveiled the floor of newly built Matthew Knight Arena on Friday, and to say the least the design lives up to the school's reputation for cutting-edge panache and flair. The court is framed on all sides by a forest of fir trees, an homage to the school's picturesque Pacific Northwest setting and to Oregon's 1939 national title team nicknamed "The Tall Firs." Kilkenny Floor is named after Pat Kilkenny, a long-time supporter of Oregon athletics who served as the school's athletic director from 2007 to 2009 and ran the recent coaching search to replace Ernie Kent. In the center of the floor is the slogan "Deep in the Woods," which is meant to intimidate opposing teams. (Yes, seriously)Considering Oregon's deep-rooted ties to Nike, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Tinker Hatfield is the designer of the floor. Hatfield, a former Oregon track and field star and vice president of design and special projects for Nike, designed many of the shoes from the famed Air Jordan line.

Not 1, Not 2, Not 3.....

I'm talking about the number of championships these studs will bring. Wade's House, Lebron's Kingdom, and Bosh's Pit. What more do you want people. What more can you wish for. Lebron said, "I'm going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat."If your a Heat fan and you hear that, you pretty much are about to shit your pants. It's so incredible to even think about. An idea that one cannot fathom. A superteam if you will. Ridiculous. Insane. Unfair. Unbelieveable. "I feel bad for who ever has to guard me and Lebron," said Dwyane Wade. "When I get a rebound, I can outlet on my right to Lebron, or I can outlet on my left to D-Wade. I'm a lucky man," said Chris Bosh and yes he is. George Sedano from 790 the ticket asked if not winning a championship this upcoming season would be considered a failure to the "Dynathree" and D-Wade grabbed the mike and simply said "Yes." Heat fans, and all other basketball fans out there must know that: "We mean business on the court. We came together to win championships. People can say whatever they want, they can call us team Hollywood and what not but they will all thank us later when their seats fill up in their arenas because of us coming to town." Spoken by the "Dynathree."
